Camps & conferences
There are several camps and conferences that CCU takes part in throughout the year. They are all fantastic ways to both learn and have fun at the same time. If you ask anyone who's ever been on one, they will tell you that they are not-to-be-missed opportunities.
Kickstart camp
Kickstart is a camp to start off the year, particularly recommended for Christian first year students. Going to uni for the first time can present you with some pretty unique challenges as a Christian, so Kickstart is designed as a great way to help you prepare for your first year. You'll be able to connect with lots of new friends from Curtin as well as the other unis in Perth. You get to meet other Christian students who are starting uni at the same time, and older students who will be able to give you a perspective on uni life.
MYC
If you attend only one conference this year, make sure it's this one. MYC (Mid Year Conference) is an event shared by all of the Christian Union groups in Perth. It is a week of in-depth teaching on a particular topic and is full of workshops, Bible studies and discussions.
MYC this year:
Details to be announced soon.
Girl's camp
As the name suggests, this camp is only for the girls. It is a few days of fellowship with other female students and a time to look at what the Bible says about various issues under the guidance of the Biblically-trained staffworkers. It is a time to relax and enjoy the Bible and the company of other girls who love God's word.
Bus trip and NTE
At the end of the year, AFES hold their national conference known as NTE (National Training Event). NTE is similar to MYC, but 10 times larger. It involves two things: a conference in Canberra with over 1000 uni students, and afterwards serving a church usually in Sydney with other students from the WA Christian Union groups. It is an incredible opportunity to take part in - every student should try to attend at least one NTE in their life at uni.
As West Australian students, we don't exactly live just down the road from it either. To solve this, we have bus trip - 3 days of travelling across the Nullarbor to get to NTE. We also spend several days before and after NTE sightseeing in Canberra and Sydney.
Bus trip and NTE are potentially life changing experiences. The things you learn on conference, the experience you gain serving the church and community afterwards, and the friendships you make over the trip are invaluable. Anyone who's been already will agree.
