What does all that jargon mean?
Are you confused by the amount of acronyms and technical words that people at CCU use? Well don't worry, we secretly are as well! To help you, and us, here's a list of some commonly used jargon at CCU:
AFES - Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students
CCU is part of an organisation called AFES, who are the umbrella body, not only for CCU, but many other Christian university groups like us around Australia. Just to confuse you further, AFES has state offices as well, and obviously the AFES in WA is called AFESWA.
CCU - Curtin Christian Union
Our name and the group we are.
CU - Christian Union
Often used to describe one of our events or activities, such as 'Are you coming to CU?' may mean 'Are you coming to the CCU Bible Talk today?'
IFES - International Fellowship of Evangelical Students
IFES is the international version of AFES, they are the ultimate umbrella body for Christian university groups around the world.
MYC - Mid-Year Conference
Mid-Year conference is the annual combined state camp that is run in the mid-year university break. It is run by AFESWA and is intended for all Christian university groups in Perth. It is a week of teaching, fellowship, fun and intense study from the Bible as well as a fantastic time to meet uni students from all over the state! More info in MYC can be found on the AFESWA website; www.afeswa.info
NTE - National Training Event
NTE is the national equivalent of MYC. It is an annual conference held after the end of Semester 2 exams, involving all AFES groups around Australia. It is usually held in Canberra, and a group of Perth students head across on a bus to the week long conference, which involves a week of mission work in a church in Sydney afterwards. More info on NTE can be found on the AFES website; www.afes.org.au
